This Study Guide is to get you thinking about the results you want to achieve.
For the purposes of this Training, be sure to record your experiences. This is important for two reasons. First, it gives you quiet time to reflect on your experiences and your feelings. Second, it helps you keep your focus throughout the Training.
Answer every question, do every exercise as truthfully and completely as possible.

Let’s get started…
PREPARATION ONE
1. Read over the complete lesson. 2. Print up “The Guidelines For The Meeting.” 3. Read these Guidelines every day, becoming familiar with the process. 4. Begin to observe and to think about the children you work with.
PREPARATION TWO
1. Make a list of conflicts you have right now with the children you work with or that they have with each other. 2. It is also useful to make a list of areas of agreement, where everything goes smoothly.
PREPARATION THREE
1. List areas of differences between you and the children you work with: differences in interests, in beliefs, in values, in likes and dislikes. Think carefully, be thorough and write down what comes to mind. 2. As you read “The Guidelines For The Meeting” think about using this with the kids you work with. Make notes. Do this for the next three days.
PREPARATION FOUR
1. Choose several areas of conflict that you might begin with.
a. Write them down. b. Write the outcomes that you would like for each area. c. Write the outcomes you expect for each area. Are the outcomes you expect the same as the outcomes you would like?
2. Imagine using “The Guidelines For The Meeting.” Make notes.
PREPARATION FIVE
1. Have a mental rehearsal session. Write down how it went and any thoughts or feelings or questions that came up for you. 2. Write problems that might come up in each step. 3. Write how you might deal with each problem.
Preparations Six through Nine are concerned with more in depth preparation for your session.
PREPARATION SIX
1. What are the rules of brainstorming, as you understand them? 2. What preparation have you made, or do you plan to make, to ensure that everyone participating understands the rules of brainstorming? 3. What do you plan to do if one or more of the rules of brainstorming are not followed?
PREPARATION SEVEN
1. What is your understanding of the Elimination step?
a. It is said that the Elimination step is the heart of this strategy. What does this mean to you? b. Why do you believe this is true? c. Have you experienced this at any other time in your life? In any other situations?
2. How do you plan to make sure that this most important step of the strategy is completed to everyone’s satisfaction?
PREPARATION EIGHT
1. Have you ever used negotiation to get what you wanted? With your family? Friends? At work? 2. Do you understand how the Elimination step makes the Negotiation step much easier and smoother than normal negotiations? 3. How will you know that you have found a win-win solution? 4. What will you do to make sure that everyone has the same understanding of the solution before it is finally written down? 5. When have you experienced problems caused by misunderstandings?
PREPARATION NINE
1. Why might you consider writing the solution down as the first action? 2. How will you make sure that if something needs to be posted on a calendar or somewhere else, on a bulletin board or on the front door, you do not forget to do it? 3. How will you make sure that every aspect and action of the win-win plan is written down and understood in the same way by everyone involved?
